Long Beach, NY, Friday, June 3 2022 - On Sunday, June 26 at 11 am Little Saint Nick Foundation (LSNF) and BarrierLife will host the first ever Barrier Island Chicken Championship at Bright Eye Beer Co where five of the best restaurants on the south shore of Nassau County will compete with their fried chicken cold and one day old. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Little Saint Nick Foundation, a local based organization created to empower children to ease the fear, anxiety and isolation of sick kids both in and out of hospitals.
Fried chicken experts have known for a long time the best moment in the fried chicken lifecycle is when it’s cold and one day old. It’s when the meat and crust have enough time to develop the full flavor. Then as the crust softens, it binds to the meat a bit, making an optimal eating experience. Add the fact that 12 hours or more in the fridge allows the fat from frying to seep into the chicken creating the optimal point to eat fried chicken.
To find out who’s best cold and one day old fried chicken in the Long Beach area we held a public vote shared amongst the chicken eating seeking nominations for Chicken Contenders and the top votes were LB Social, Five Ocean Restaurant, Beginnings, Speakeasy and Swingbellys BBQ.
Anyone can become a Chicken Judge for $39 per person. Included is a sampling from each of the five Chicken Contenders, two beers from Bright Eye Beer Co., live music from BuckTown Falls and Non-alcoholic beverages.
Ray Mohler, Jr, LSNF said “The best fried chicken, great beer, live music and helping children deal with anxieties around going to this hospital … can you think of a better way to spend your Sunday?” Garrett Guttenberg, Managing Partner at BarrierLife added “We all know fried chicken tastes best the next day straight out of the fridge, but this day is about chicken and charity”
Limited tickets to become a judge are available. For more info text bicc to (516) 744-3399 or visit EventBrite.
